IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Forsyth County's official EA comments to the Corps of Engineers and the county's position to keep Bethel Park
a free and public park.
Bethel Park Would Be Best Managed By Forsyth County
There are an excessive number of bad reasons for a Metro Atlanta YMCA at Bethel Park that we have identified in our comments to the Corps as well as
communicated to our elected local, state, and federal representiatives. Our elected officials all have agreed with our position. But in addition
to our comments look at the image links below to further illustrate how the Metro Atlanta YMCA currently manages some aspects of camps at Eagle Point
and High Harbor.
This is how well the Metro Atlanta YMCA took care of the entrance at Eagle Point located off the Bald Ridge exit from 400: YMCA Eagle Point And this would be the Swiss Air and Bethel Park road traffic reality every summer due to campers jockeying for the best cabin: YMCA Traffic Block (What would be the result should an ambulance or fire truck fail to reach an emergency due to roads partially block?) Now is our time to act to prevent this. Make your voice heard to the Corps to save Bethel Park. It is our desire to keep Bethel Park available for the enjoyment of all families and children instead of the select privileged few as the Y would have it.
Forsyth County has developed a wonderful plan for Bethel Park which is inclusive of EVERYONE and not a select privileged few as the Y wants.
The facts come out: County asked Corps for parks in 2004!
The Y coalition "leaders" constantly claimed the county was offered Bethel Park and that the county
turned down the offer. Additionally, the Y coalition "leaders" possessed affidavits from "prominent"
citizens to prove it. Well...Their fallacies are now exposed and their affidavits nullified by the truth!
Why Bethel Park must be saved from private development.
There are 18 million reasons (ie, dollars) why the bankers, builders, and developers are drooling to
develop Bethel Park into a private camp. They will tell you its good for the county and good for the kids
but they fail to tell you its also very good for their bank accounts.
